I'm not sure where it's located on these Devilles it might be behind the glove compartment , but you need to grab the arm and try to move it; if it moves, the actuator is bad, and simply needs to be replace. You need to remove the temperature actuator to access the bolts easily. Remove the dash panel below the glove box, you cannot miss it. If reading is not 12 volts, go to step 10. The other possibility is the programmer, which is basically the brains of the climate control system. Put in a couple of screws but do not tighten them.
I have the factory service manual. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauge, and Console. All Replacement brand items are backed by 1-year, unlimited-mileage warranty. If this doesn't work, is there any way to replace the bad part? I dont get any codes for this though. So replace tha actuator to get the right temputure on the driver side? This would be a 3rd compressor in 6 years. Millwright71 I had one go bad in my 99 when I first bought it. This video is applicable to the Cadillac DeVille, years 96, 97, 98, and 99. If I turn the driver side temp to 60 I get about the same temp through driver and passanger vents. After a successfull installation I will silicone the duct back on for future access. I plugged it back up and did some checking and determined the problem was indeed a faulty mode actuator assembly.
. The other one, and possibly the easier to access is the temp actuator. The drivers side actuator is located directly below the passenger actuator. Removing that screw will allow the duct to drop down enough so that you will be able to work more comfortably. Remove the instrument panel carrier.
The radio is hanging, the screw for the duct work is removed and now you have to get under the dash. I have tried cycling through the modes and the temparture a few times earlier today and it didn't seem to change anything but I did do it kinda fast. Still under warranty, the dealership replaced it while I waited, so it can't be that bad. Recheck dual zone mode operation. This is probably due to a bad air mix door actuator on the passenger side. I can't remember ever replacing a mode actuator.
