If the plate is insufficiently coated and the vehicle is operated in cold climate regions where road salts are frequently used, road spray can reach the carrier assembly and corrode the lift plate. It's very reliable, the head was replaced under warranty due to an oil leak and I replaced the coolant stem gasket and battery. I now have 50,000 miles on it and it has been a great vehicle. One lesson I did learn is that educations are expensive, no matter what you learn there is always a cost. It's been flawless in operation. Also have the timing belt and water pump and other maintenance records from the dealer. These were much harder to find from the dealers.
I wish I never traded my 2000 in for a dodge, I regret it. Only two owners and timing belt water pump done at the dealer with receipt at 102k miles. First Tacoma I had was a extended cab - I bought the Double-Cab for the additional passenger room. This is a rare model because it has non power window and locks yet its the V6 model with Cruise. The spare tire in the subject vehicles is located underneath the rear of the vehicle and held by a spare tire carrier. So some people wanted the non power window and locks.
